Senior Platform Engineer (Founding)

About the role
This company acquires professional engineering firms and rebuilds how they work with AI. They do not sell software to firms; they buy the business, keep the people, and install their own technology inside it. The CTO is a licensed engineer who spent a decade building software at top-tier engineering shops. You will build and own the multi-tenant platform every acquired firm runs on, so that each new firm is faster and cheaper to onboard than the last. This is a backend software engineering role that includes infrastructure ownership, not a DevOps or SRE seat. You should be able to move from an architecture discussion straight into implementation.
What you will own
- Backend services, APIs, and core product architecture, written and operated personally.
- Multi-tenant architecture: tenant provisioning, data isolation, identity, authentication, and permissions.
- The path from commit to production: CI/CD, testing infrastructure, preview environments, local dev.
- Observability, reliability standards, and incident practice, built from close to a blank slate.
- Cloud infrastructure on AWS as code, data modeling, queues, and event-driven workflows.
- Direct collaboration with the CTO on architecture and long-term engineering direction.
What we are looking for
- Five to ten or more years of software engineering, currently a Senior, Staff, Principal, Platform, or Backend Engineer.
- Experience at a venture-backed startup around Series B or C, or somewhere with a comparably high technical bar. This is the strongest single signal.
- Has personally owned high-impact technical decisions inside a complex distributed production system and can explain the alternatives.
- Has written and operated production application code, not only the infrastructure it runs on.
- Has built the first useful version of platform capability where none existed.
- Genuinely wants to be on-site in NYC five days a week.
Nice to have
- Founding engineer or first infrastructure hire at a startup.
- Developer platform or developer experience background.
- Prior civil, structural, MEP, architecture, construction tech, or CAD/BIM exposure before moving into software.
