VP of Design

About the role
This is the senior design seat at an AI-native operating platform for freight, used by thousands of trucking and brokerage companies. You will build and lead a multidisciplinary team across product and brand, set the design strategy for a data-dense enterprise web app and a driver mobile app, and sit at the exec table on roadmap, packaging and go-to-market.
It is a player-coach role: you still frame the hardest problems yourself and prototype the answers. The company is shipping AI agents and conversational analytics into the product right now, so you will define what trustworthy AI feels like for professional users.
What you will own
- • Hiring, leading and leveling a team of product and brand designers, including the career ladder and critique culture
- • Product design strategy across a complex enterprise web app (grids, schedulers, timelines, bulk actions, keyboard-driven workflows) and a driver mobile app
- • A design system that serves both humans and AI coding agents, kept in sync between Figma and production code
- • AI product surfaces: conversational analytics, agentic workflows, and the trust and correction patterns around them
- • Growth design across in-app upgrade, add-on and expansion flows
- • Brand and visual identity, run as one org with product
- • Partnership with the exec team on roadmap, pricing and go-to-market
What we are looking for
- • 10+ years in design and 4+ years leading designers, across both product and brand
- • Still an excellent hands-on practitioner who leads from the work
- • Deep experience with complex, data-dense B2B workflow software for professional users
- • Scaled a production design system with engineering, including versioning, adoption and governance
- • Shipped step-change UX with customer and revenue outcomes you can point to
- • Thrives at Series B/C speed
- • Influence at the exec table on roadmap, pricing or go-to-market
- • Has meaningfully changed how you and your team work with AI
- • A portfolio that shows thinking and outcomes, including work led through a team
Nice to have
- • Logistics, freight, fleet or other operational software experience
- • Design leadership for AI-native or agentic products
- • Prototyping in code
- • Field or frontline mobile apps with offline constraints
